Ceuta

1972 |
I will never forget the feeling of the ferryboat drawing near the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa. It was Christmas Day 1972, my third year on the road carrying the cross. I had begun my walk on Christmas Day 1969.
On board the ship were my twelve foot cross and the Land Rover that was to be my support vehicle down to South Africa. I was to begin my crosswalk in Africa in this small autonomous province of Spain in Africa.
My family was with me including my children, Gina, Joel, Joy and Joshua. We had the Land Rover and a camping trailer we towed, food and supplies.
Off I started with the cross and immediately people started coming up to talk with me. Many tourists from Europe were in Ceuta and it was a powerful witness.
A great start for a long journey in Africa!
